Enhanced Telecommunications Corporation (ETC) is an aggressively innovative telecommunications provider, delivering the total package of communications, information, and entertainment services through premier technologies, services, and support. Through the years we've added many advanced services, including Long Distance, Video, High Speed Internet, Cellular, Business Phone Systems, Security Systems, Web Design, Web Hosting and Print Design. ETC currently employs over 70 people and has offices in Batesville, Brookville, Greensburg, and Sunman. To date we provide service to over 8,000 customers spanning Ripley, Dearborn, Decatur, and Franklin counties.
Milestones in ETC History
2011
ETC was voted The Best Cable TV Provider by the Reader's Choice Award poll conducted by the Herald Tribune and Greensburg Daily News. On July 13th, ETC officially announced their partnership with Ericsson to begin deployment of wireless broadband through LTE technology.
2010
ITA (Indiana Telecommunications Association) Company of the Year in recognition for outstanding service to the industry. ETC received the Distinguished Business Achievement award by the Brookville/Franklin County Chamber of Commerce. In January ETC introduced the Tech Team to assist those in need of networking and other technological needs. On March 4th, ETC was awarded stimulus funds (half grant, half loan) to provide wireless broadband access to seven counties in southeastern Indiana, to include Decatur, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Ripley, Scott and Switzerland.
2008
ETC celebrates 75 years as a locally-owned and operated telecommunications provider. The company has been in the Miles family since 1933. President and CEO, Chad Miles, is the 4th generation to lead ETC as one of the state's fastest growing independent telecommunications companies.
2007
On December 21, 2007, Chad Miles announced plans for a phased expansion of the ETC fiber optic network into Brookville, Indiana beginning with local phone and Internet services in 2008. ETC began the phased roll-out of IPTV in Batesville.
2006
On January 2, 2006, Chad A. Miles and Jennifer S. Miles announced the purchase of ETC from Robert T. Miles, Jr. Robert T. Miles, Jr. announced his retirement as Chairman of the Board of Miles Enterprises. Chad A. Miles succeeds Robert T. Miles, Jr. as Chairman of the Board.
2005
On April 18, 2005, Robert T. Miles, Jr. board chairman of Miles Enterprises, announced that Chad A. Miles had been named the company's new President & CEO. In November ETC launched IP Video in the Greensburg and Sunman markets. ETC received the Indiana Telecommunications Association Advancing Technology Award, as Chad and Tim Miles were recognized for extraordinary contributions by an employee of an ITA member company that has enhanced technology of the local exchange carrier industry locally, statewide and/or nationally.
2004
In April ETC added web management to its portfolio. This division is responsible for website design, web hosting, domain name registration and print design. In June, ETC opened its Greensburg office and began deployment of service in phases. In August, ETC introduced a Wireless Broadband and Digital Voice division to begin providing High Speed Internet access and local & long distance service in areas outside of ETC's current service territories. ETC was recognized with the OPASTCO Indy Award, Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Marketing for the category of Multimedia.
2003
Together, both the Sunman and Batesville offices provide service to over 8,000 access lines spanning four counties. The company decided to open another competitive office in Greensburg. Preparations began for a 2004 Grand Opening celebration and deployment of service. The new technology of Fiber-To-The-Premise (FTTP) was chosen to be utilized in the Greensburg market.
2002
Nationwide cellular service was introduced. ETC was recognized with the Sunman Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year for innovative technology, community involvement, and significant contributions. Also recognized with the Indiana Telecommunications Association Humanitarian Award for actions far exceeding regular duty (then employees Jason Rowlett & Bobby Shane saved a mother and her children from their burning home).
2001
On September 17, 2001, Sunman Telecommunications Corporation officially changed its corporate name to Enhanced Telecommunications Corporation (ETC), to better represent where the company was headed, to providing "enhanced services in an enhanced coverage area."
2000
High Speed Internet was introduced with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. STC received "Ripley County's Outstanding Business of the Year Award" for their technology progression and community service. STC opened a competitive office in Batesville. This office operated under the name Enhanced Telecommunications Corporation, or ETC. STC received the In Vision Southeast Award of Excellence for outstanding progress in technology and community involvement in southeastern Indiana, specifically Ripley County.
1999
A Lucent 5ESS-2000 Digital Switch replaced the Sieman's Switch to once again provide "top of the line" service. Digital Video and Security Systems were introduced. STC received the Indiana Lieutenant Governor's Business Award for outstanding contributions to economic growth and prosperity of Indiana.
1997
Long Distance and Internet services were introduced.
1994
Sunman Telephone Company changed its name to Sunman Telecommunications Corporation (STC) to better represent its services. The company now had 4,000 access lines. STC and Robert T. Miles, Jr. were recognized with the Indiana Telecommunications Association Pacesetter Award for performing unusual or far exceeding services for the benefit of the telephone industry through ITA and national industry programs.

Robert T. Miles, Jr. became President of Sunman Telephone Company.
1987
The Analog Switch was replaced with a Sieman's Digital Switch for better service. Video was introduced.
1979
Robert T. Miles, Sr. purchased the company from his father-in-law, Robert H. Miller. Robert T. Miles, Sr. had already owned the Napoleon exchange.
1978
Cable was buried underground and party lines were converted to private lines. Sunman Telephone Company experienced a 36% growth within 5 years.
1968
The Sunman Telephone Company was recognized with the Indiana Telecommunications Association Humanitarian Award. Robert T. Miles, Sr. received the Merit Award for saving a man who was swept 100 feet down creek at 5 above zero temperature.
1933
Robert H. Miller founded the Sunman Telephone Company connecting doctors to patients with lines spanning across Sunman and New Alsace.
